I led an interdisciplinary team that developed the narrative and design concept for the World Bank’s flagship report on gender and entrepreneurship in Africa.

Ending Violence Against Girls and Boys

Partners: Bernard van Leer Foundation, Oak Foundation, UBS Optimus Foundation, Nduna Foundation, Anonymous Donor

I served as the program director for WithoutViolence, a global initiative designed to help violence prevention leaders from UNICEF, Save the Children, and social enterprises in the Global North and South improve their communications. The team and I helped develop the coalition’s strategic approach, coached the program participants on effective face-to-face and written communications, and managed the production of infographics and films. An independent evaluation found that the initiative helped the leaders achieve global advocacy goals and contributed to the founding of the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children.

Strengthening Families, not Orphanages in Southern Africa

Partner: Hope and Homes for Children

Consultations with Hope and Homes for Children and their partners in the region revealed a need to explore how policy and decision makers perceived institutional care and how to best frame the issue. In partnership with a local consultant, I led a team that conducted interviews with over 50 key informants. These provided insights on how regional leaders understood the situation of children, the challenge of caring for girls and boys outside of family care, and what messages and communications strategies were most likely to be effective. Based on the research, the team and I developed a comprehensive communications and advocacy strategy.
